how do I request a visit to the POPS room?
Please read below first so you understand what will happen!!
PLEASE NOTE: ALL INFORMATION SHARED IN THE POPS ROOM, STAYS IN THE POPS ROOM, THIS INCLUDES VISITORS. CONSEQUENCES WILL BE GIVEN IF DRAMA CONTINUES DUE TO A POPS ROOM VISIT. THE ROOM IS MEANT TO STOP THE DRAMA, NOT START IT!
To visit the POPS room you fill out the request form for yourself by yourself, with a friend, and/or someone you are concerned about that you think would benefit from being listened to by someone who won't judge, take sides, or give advice. POPS Team members are trained to walk you through a process to help you find your own solutions. Only Team members who have completed our training and passed a POPS Room quiz are allowed to work our POPS room.
When you submit your form it goes to Mrs. Bahrke (Co-advisor) who then gives it to the POPS Peer Listeners assigned to work the room that day. We make every effort to have you visit as soon as possible after your request.
The POPS Peer Listeners then look up your schedule to find out when you and your other visitor (if applicable) have study hall. Some students don't have study hall or both visitors don't have study hall at the same time so some class time may be missed. As a visitor to the POPS room you are responsible for any work you miss. The POPS Peer Listener has a script to confidentially have your teacher direct you to the room for your visit.
To start a visit you must agree to our process and rules. This is voluntary and if you don't want to agree you don't have to stay. POPS members take you through our process that hopefully results in you feeling better. We never take allow more than two visitors in the room at a time.

What is POPS?
POPS stands for Peers On Positive Schools.
It is the Bay View Middle School version of Peer Listening that is relaxed and conversational. It offers a unique leadership opportunity, and all students are welcome to be trained! Over 200 students were trained and on the team last year. POPS team members chosen to be trustworthy by their peers will run the POPS room during all study halls and will perform peer listening to visitors of the room. All POPS team members are peer listeners informally every day with friends and family.
We are the Heart and Soul of Bay View.
What else does the POPS Team do?
If you would like to be on the team and missed the training, you can join us at any team meeting and sign into the roster.
